Perceptions about careers in land-based and environmental industries can be very different from reality. It’s no longer just about muddy wellies, unsocial hours and manual graft.
There is a great need for skilled managerial, high-tech and specialist people, who are well rewarded financially and who will enjoy quality opportunities. But there is still a wide range of hands-on roles, paid and voluntary, for people of all ages and abilities. Our research predicts that 110,000 people will needed over the next decade there is plenty of opportunities.

Each year we carry out a thorough investigation into what skills are needed in the sector. This Skills Assessment gives an overview of the key drivers for the sector as well as detailing workforce characteristics, geographical spread, skills levels and issues.
The latest Skills Assessment states:
"Action must be taken to tackle ageing workforce levels as we will lose a generation of highly skilled workers. 110,000 new entrants are needed over the next decade. We must attract local workforces to take up careers in the sector."
