The Renewed Strategic Framework for Aquaculture means you need to improve your record on fish escapes. It means everyone in aquaculture must have the skills and understanding needed to minimise human error and technical skills when it comes to escapes.

The Marine Act 2010 means you will need to use people who have the relevant training to deal with predation management and possibly development applications.

Animal health and welfare

The health and welfare of the fish and shellfish you cultivate is important to you and your customers. You need to maintain your workforce’s awareness of current legislation and of your duty of care.

You need to know what you are legally required to do to ensure food traceability.

Management skills

Aquaculture businesses need to develop more management skills. This can be challenging for large organisations where staff work remotely, as well as for sole traders, SMEs and micro businesses who find it difficult to find the time away from their business.

Access to training

You told us you want more flexible ways to train your staff. With 90% of businesses having ten staff or less, you find it difficult to spend large periods of time on training courses and want more options, such as bite-sized, online and CD based training.
