What Your Industry Needs
We lead the way in understanding what equine businesses and individuals need.
Livery yard licensing
Future laws might require that all livery yards are registered and licensed. These laws are being proposed to make sure that all yards are have the right skills and training to care for horses.
Transporting horses
A Certificate of Competence is required for anyone transporting horses, ponies, donkeys and mules for business activities. Part of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006, this law is designed to protect the welfare of horses before, during and after they are moved.
Employees with current equine skills
You told us that you need employees with current, up-to-date equine skills. We have worked with you to develop useful workbooks for horse care and racehorse care so that your young staff can do what you need to them to. Read more on our equine workbooks.
Access to continual professional development
You told us that you want more flexible ways to train yourself and your staff. We have worked with the British Grooms Society to create the Equine Skills CV. This easy-to-read tool helps you identify your current skills and lets you know what professional development you need. The name says it all: it helps you build your equine CV.
Health and Safety
Working with customers and any animal can be dangerous, and horses are no exception. Up-to-date health and safety training is a must for equine businesses and will help you protect the safety of your horses and your customers.
Marketing skills
Most equine businesses are small, and there is a lot of competition from others. To develop and maintain a successful business, you need to market your skills and services effectively to current and prospective clients.
Customer care training
We often hear you like working with horses more than humans, but people are important to your business too. Whether you are a large riding centre or a freelance instructor, good customer care is a must – it can make or break your business.
Management skills
You need to have as much control over your business as you do you’re your horse. Equine businesses need to develop more management skills. This can be hard for small businesses who find it difficult to find the time away from their workplace.
Clear guidance on sources and access to funding
We have been listening. You said it was complicated and time-consuming to find funding and support for you and your business. We have created a special tool that does some of the hard work for you and points you in the right direction.
