After studying for a BSc in Applied Biology at Nottingham University, Caroline joined JSR Genetics Ltd where she found out about LandSkills YH funding to go on a Leadership Development Group (LDG) course and develop her career.

The funding from LandSkills YH has benefitted Caroline greatly and worked very well alongside her development in the Meat Scientist role.

Having begun work at JSR Genetics Ltd in the Thorpe Willoughby Boar Stud with responsibility for writing the company protocols for AI production, Caroline moved to the R&G department as JSR’s Meat Scientist.

With money from LandSkills YH Caroline also went on a Leadership Development Group (LDG) 18 course, which is designed to improve both team management skills and awareness on how to interact with or are perceived by your colleagues and peers.  The course also covered employment law, health and safety, time management etc which are all required in a leader.

LDG has benefitted Caroline greatly and worked very well alongside her development in the Meat Scientist role.

Caroline feels that training allows the continuous development of her role aswell as you as a person. By continually updating and refreshing your skills and abilities “bad habits” and inefficiencies are highlighted and rectified.

In the future Caroline would like to further develop her abilities to run statistical analysis.

Caroline felt that while the course was often challenging, it was extremely relevant. Often more was learnt outside the classroom, whilst carrying out particles. She also got to meet a lovely group of people, some of whom I have created great friendships with.
