Ceredig Wyn Jones, a student at Glynllifon, Coleg Llandrillo, has always wanted to work in agriculture.
Ceredig Wyn Jones
When the opportunity arose to be part of Pathways to Apprenticeships (PTA), he knew the benefits this programme had to offer. Ceredig saw this as a chance to develop his knowledge and experience while getting into his dream career in agriculture.
Ceredig attends college at Glynllifon four days a week where he studies a range of agriculture topics including Livestock Production, Crop Production and Machinery Operation in the classroom. He also learns out on the college farm where he gains the practical agricultural skills.
The range of activities on the college farm ensures that Ceredig gains experience in a variety of areas, which is good preparation for his work placement. Studying Essential Skills qualifications is part of the course and Ceredig has found this has developed his literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
Soon his six week work experience period will start, coinciding with lambing season so he knows how busy it will be. After that he is looking forward to completing his certificates of competence, including tractor driving, safe use of sheep dips and sheep sheering when he returns to college.
Ceredig is enjoying his time at Glynllifon. “There is a good atmosphere on site, the practical and work experience aspect is what I enjoy best.”
Ceredig believes that the whole PTA programme as a package is beneficial because “you get everything, the knowledge, skills and experience. I believe the toolkit will come in very handy on work experience.”
If opportunities arise for an Apprenticeship or employment in an area he is interested in, Ceredig is keen to apply.
