Pathways to Apprenticeships Provides Roots for New Career
David Riley
David Riley, a horticulture student from Holywell in North Wales, has secured a job thanks to his Pathways to Apprenticeship (PTA) Qualification.
Having always dreamt of becoming an Architect or Landscape Designer, the Northop College student had originally planned on going to University after finishing school. After concerns over the related costs and with guidance from his parents and Careers Advisors, David decided to look at more vocational options. In line with his landscape design ambitions, David enquired about Horticulture courses at Northop College.
David said: “The PTA really is, for me, the best option. Not only is it a fast-track to a Level 3 Qualification, but it also allows me to gain extra professional qualifications such as pesticide and chainsaw certificates. It’s meant that I’ve been getting paid whilst studying and also leads to an Apprenticeship placement.”
During his PTA, David has been able to build a theoretical understanding of horticultural concepts as well as develop practical skills and his understanding of the industry. The PTA also allowed David to gain an Apprenticeship with a Tree Surgeon, opening his eyes up to a whole new career path. After gaining his Apprenticeship Qualification he will be able to secure a full-time job, forging ahead with a career as a Tree Surgeon.
