Hargreaves Plants, one of Lincolnshire’s leading horticultural businesses who specialise in the breeding and propagation of soft fruit plants and asparagus crowns, have been working with Spalding Horticultural Training to access 70% funding towards developing the skills of their employees.

It's widely accepted that south Lincolnshire is the centre of horticultural excellence in the UK. One of the areas’ leading companies, Hargreaves Plants are seeing great opportunities in the current market place.

M.D. of Hargreaves Plants, Rupert Hargreaves, said:  “This is a major benefit to our business.  We are training people at all levels throughout the business from basic level plant skills, accounts, customer care right through to director's training at the Institute of Directors.

“Our business is expanding rapidly now in different markets and export, this could not be achieved without additional skills.  We can already see, as a result of this training initiative by the funding from LandSkills EM that our company's expansion will once again require increased staffing levels for next year.  Strikes me it's a win: win!”

Spalding Horticultural Training have been delivering LandSkills EM training since 2009. Lorna Howitt at Spalding Horticultural Training said:   “Between November 2009 and September 2010 we have trained 578 people amounting to over 800 trainee training days.

“With 70% funding from LandSkills EM towards the cost of training these people have accessed a wide range of courses including BASIS and FACTS, management and supervisory, financial and environmental courses.

“We are now looking forward to the next 12 months to delivering a further planned 1100 trainee training days to over 600 people.”
