Getting the most out of your employees
"LandSkills EM funding has helped to get the most out of our staff. Training courses improve the morale of staff - a sense of achievement which they then put into practice in the workplace. It has also made for happier staff, a better work environment and better outputs."
Mike Beddow originally started the company with a small white van, some climbing equipment and two chainsaws over 10 years ago. The company now has 15 full time staff, five bespoke vehicles and does not use any sub contractors at all.
with LandSkills EM money staff have completed their CS30/31, CS38, CS39, CS40 and CS41and attended various knowledge transfer courses run by RDI .
When asked how the money has benefited his business Kirsty said: "The funding has enabled the company to speed up the training of their employees, developing their skill and knowledge base much more quickly than if the company had to finance all the training itself.
"There has definitely been an imapct on the business' bottom line – being able to speed up the training process of staff enables the company to move forward more quickly, bringing more trainees in at the bottom. This increases output which improves profitability.

The company plans to take on at least two more trainees who will require a full set of training.
"Businesses need to invest in skills for its overall development and to get the best out of the people who work for them. Also it's very important to address the safety angle , which is imperative in this day and age.
When asked why others should take advantage of the money available Kirsty said: "Arranging funding has been extremely efficient for me. All the paperwork is done for them meaning it hassle-free and the information given on knowledge transfer courses has been extremely useful and very well presented."
