12/07/2011 - More than half a million pounds has been allocated to help the South East’s farmers, foresters and growers get the training they need to boost their business’ profitability.

From 1 August 2011 until 31 March 2012, £527,000 is available to businesses in the south east to get up to 70% off training.

From the end of May 2011, our LandSkills SE programme has provided funded training for 2,600 courses to over 12,500 learners, in many subjects including:

  • Improving work practices and resource management
  • Technical skills
  • Complying with new legislation, including nutrient management
  • Managing woodlands for fuel and economic benefit
  • Leadership, business and financial management
  • Primary processing in the agricultural and forestry industries
  • Resource use, including waste reduction and management, water use, energy efficiency and bio-energy.

There are a very wide range of courses eligible under LandSkills SE from BASIS to Fresh Start Academy and Hard/Soft Cheese Making to Livestock Transport.  Ten training providers are approved to deliver the diverse list of eligible courses.

Shelley Newton, our LandSkills SE Programme Manager, said: “This programme has proved highly successful in skilling the farmers and foresters of the South East, so it is wonderful news that the funding programme has been extended until the end of March 2012.”

Shelley continued: “The half million has already been allocated to this region’s land-based businesses, now it is up to you to come forward and make sure you take advantage of this opportunity, and help your business become more successful and ride out the economic uncertainties.  Get in touch now as the funding ends on 31 March 2011.”

We manage LandSkills SE on behalf of regional development agency SEEDA as part of Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).  The RDPE 2007-13 is jointly funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Defra.
