07/10/2011 - It’s packed full of information about their projects and services. It also announces some new initiatives that will be of interest to you. The LandSkills training project continues as does the Woodfuel Investment Programme and they are pleased to continue our working relationship with the Woodland Trust on PAWS restoration in the region.

In addition to these projects, they are happy to announce the start of some exciting new work and, in particular, support for communities and firewood producers in the Dales National Park to develop a quality assured supply of firewood for the domestic market, opportunities for tree planting under the Big Tree Plant initiative and support for women working in the land based and environmental sectors. Below are some extracts from the newsletter.

Woodfuel Quality Assurance in the Dales

Yorwoods has been successful in securing Sustainable Development Funding from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority to help develop the supply of quality assured woodfuel products to communities in the Dales. The project will allow Yorwoods to work with businesses involved in the woodfuel supply chain to achieve the new HETAS Solid Biofuels Assurance Scheme which provides independent analysis of woodfuel in terms of quality assurance and sustainability. The project will also be working with communities across the Dales to help them to source sustainable, quality assured woodfuel products so working with and developing both ends of the supply chain.
If you are a woodfuel supplier in the Dales or a community group wanting secure sources of quality assured woodfuel products and are interested in taking advantage of this exciting new opportunity, please contact Will at the Yorwoods office – 01765 609355 will.richardson@yorwoods.org.uk

LandSkills

Places are still available on ignite courses running across the region. ignite courses have been designed to give foresters, and those interested in supplying and using woodfuel, a solid background and introduction to the sector and are a must for anyone interested in setting up as a woodfuel supplier or for established woodfuel supply businesses that want to know more about the technical side of woodfuel and how to take advantage of the growing market opportunities.
To book any of these courses or obtain further details, please contact Erica Spencer on 01765 609355 or Erica.spencer@yorwoods.org.uk.

STOP PRESS

We have just received confirmation of funding through Landskills of our innovative new 'Forestry & Climate Change' training course. This course is designed to support forestry contractors and managers to go beyond the 'awareness' stage and make practical decisions as to how to cope with - and benefit from - climate change. After piloting in Yorkshire we will be taking this course national but to make it a reality we need to raise a small amount of cash sponsorship from a private sector partner. If you would be interested in sponsoring this course and raising the profile of your business with potentially hundreds of trainees please contact Will on 01765 609355 or will.richardson@yorwoods.org.uk.

Woodland Trust
PAWS Restoration

Yorwoods, with the support of the Woodland Trust, are carrying out work within the Yorkshire region to help land owners and managers to manage their Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS), restoring and conserving the valuable features they possess.  We are able to provide advice about your woodland and provide management prescriptions.  There is also support available for more detailed management planning and capital works from the Forestry Commission English Woodland Grant Scheme which Yorwoods can provide help to access.  Please get in touch with Will on 01765 609355 or will.richardson@yorwoods.org.uk if you would like to arrange a site visit or discuss the possibilities that this project can offer you.

Women and Work

Lantra are running an initiative to help promote the career progression and new career pathways to 500 women in businesses within certain land based and environmental sectors throughout the UK where they are under-represented in leadership, supervisory, management, technical, specialist and professionally skilled positions.
The project is open for employed women or volunteers supported by an employer, working full or part time, who wish to progress in non-traditional occupational areas. The trees and timber sector is one that is eligible.
Funding rates vary according to the nature of the training undertaken. For more information visit the Lantra web site: www.lantra.co.uk/womenandwork.

Date for Your Diary - APF 2012

The 19th exhibition, APF 2012, is taking place on 13-15 September 2012, at Ragley Estate, Alcester, Warwickshire, courtesy of the Marquess of Hertford.  Returning to Ragley for the first time since 2006, the exhibition is being held on a totally new area of the estate.
The last exhibition, APF 2010 at Cannock Chase, Staffordshire, saw a record number of 250 exhibitors and over 16000 visitors attend.  Many exhibitors reported record sales and orders and we are looking to build on this for 2012. The APF Exhibition has repeatedly shown itself to be the place to sell machinery and equipment to a highly targeted market.
If you are interested in exhibiting at the event, please contact Exhibition Secretary, Ian Millward. Email: info@apfexhibition.co.uk  website: www.apfexhibition.co.uk Tel: 01737 245081.
