10/10/2011 - More than 150,000 young people and students got a glimpse of what it is like working in the land-based and environmental industries at WorldSkills, held from 5-8 October, at the ExCeL London exhibition and conference centre.

Highlighting the diverse career opportunities available, Lantra, the Sector Skills Council supporting the land-based and environmental industries, attended WorldSkills bringing a bit of the countryside into the ExCeL.

There will be numerous career opportunities over the next few years if you want to work with the UK’s natural surroundings as Lantra’s research reveals there will be severe shortages in the environmental workforce over the next ten years. Estimates show that land-based industries will need about 253,000 new entrants over the next decade just to maintain the current workforce levels, so there will b e opportunities for people trained to all different qualification levels.

Lantra Careers (www.lantra.co.uk/careers) is a free online career service designed to help individuals discover what it is like to work land-based industries and to help them understand the huge opportunities it has to offer. Visitors can review more than 200 job profiles that have been created by Lantra’s team of industry manager specialists.
