13/12/2011 - Business women from across Scotland have come together to increase their business skills at Lantra’s annual Business Skills for Rural Business Women Conference and now even more women are urged to get involved.
The conference provided a forum for business experts to share top business tips and for attendees to interact, network and learn. A part of the Business Skills for Rural Business Women 2010-2012, this project helps women identify best practices and secrets to business success, to give them a competitive advantage.
The conference, which was chaired by Grainne Crawford, featured speakers with specialist business backgrounds. Donald Munro, from Dalmore Solutions, ran an interactive session while Amanda Kremer ran a work shop on how to network effectively. The afternoon presentations and activities were led by the Rural Business Women area facilitators Wendy Duckett (Ayrshire and Fife, Perth and Kinross) and Amanda Kremer (Dumfries and Galloway) Due to adverse weather, Kate Sankey (Forth Valley and Central) was not able to attend, but her group gave a good account of their activities and achievements.
Ishbel Crawford, Lantra Regional Partnership Manager said: "Our research shows that only 26% of the Scottish land-based workforce is female*, so there are great opportunities for women to engage with this project and start o build on existing skills, ideas and ambitions to run and develop rural businesses.
"Subsidised places on the programme are still available to women with links to the agriculture or forestry industries. They may already be running a business or may have aspirations to set up a business. Whichever, the project offers a great opportunity to benefit from the Scottish Government funding. The programme will support them to build on existing skills, ideas and ambitions to run and develop rural businesses.
Lantra has been delivering this programme in many areas of Scotland and are now recruiting
candidates in the Highland Region, Moray and Shetland. If you, or anyone you know might be interested in joining the programme, please visit the website or call 01738 55 33 11. Lantra Research: Sector Skills Assessment: Scotland 2010-11
