11/10/2011 - David Whyte, formerly Technical Trainer for ISS Facility Services (Landscaping), has left to venture into independant training and assessing. The new business will be called, Horticultural Landscape Solutions and will be based in Sunderland in the North East of England. The primary aim will be to help businesses in this region, however UK coverage will still be an option.
The decision to leave ISS was a tough one after nearly four years of service with one of the UK's largest grounds maintenance companies. I have now over 25 years of experience within the land based sector and my focus has been on training and development for businesses throughout the UK.
During my time with ISS I came up with an idea of creating unique qualifications to the sector that was required by looking at a range of ways we could train staff and give them the skills needed for the job to be done. This concluded with the introduction of the Grounds Maintenance Skills Award, which in its current format is unique to the work that ISS do. However, this has proved a great pilot study, there is always room for improvement and it can be adapted to suit the needs of other businesses out there. Although I will join the list of many training providers out there, I aim to be slightly different by speaking to businesses and find out what it is they need to help them provide a highly skilled workforce and provide high quality of workmanship for their clients.
I welcome buisnesses to contact me to see where and how I can help them. As well as unique bespoke training, I hope that my business can provide solutions into advising what skills are needed in individual workplaces. I can help manage training records as well as organise a range of training to meet the costs and expectations of the industry.
It is tough out there, with perhaps not as much investment in training as of the costs involved. However the job still has to be done, and importantly, done safely with skilled staff. I look forward to hearing from companies and taking things continually forward to continue the quality of service that can be produced.
