02/08/2011 - Skills Development Scotland is leading partners to support the first Scottish Apprenticeship Week during 5 - 9 September 2011. Its aim is to encourage more employers to take on apprentices.
A number of events will take place throughout the week showcasing the real advantages Apprenticeships offer to Scottish employers.
These benefits include:
- Hiring people who can contribute to output from day one while being trained to your business's needs
- Having their training costs partly met by SDS
- Getting added productivity from staff who are trained up to SVQ Level 3 or even 5 in some sectors - equivalent to a university qualification
- Having a learning provider 'on hand' to make sure everything is working out with your new recruits
- Using apprenticeships to plan for succession within your skilled workforce
- Staging the costs of getting fully qualified personnel
- Getting up to £2000 incentive if you are able to recruit someone who has faced a barrier to getting a job in the past eg unemployment.
Over 11,000 employers in Scotland are already taking advantage of the Modern Apprenticeship Programme. There are currently over 100 different training frameworks - from hairdressing to business administration, from life sciences to wind turbine maintenance.
