12/04/2011 - In April the Arcbishop of York took a whistlestop tour of Barnsley to visit a local school and a number of community projects, including our LandSkills YH funded South Pennines Project.
The LandSkills YH Team in discussion with Archbishop of York
The Archbishop met with members of the LandSkills YH team, the Churches Rural Commission (CRC) South Penines Project and local arable and dairy farmers to discuss the crisis in the dairy and pig industries, high costs of feed and how the church can engage with farmers and help lobby Parliament on their behalf with issues of the day.
A major point of discussion was how the area is dealing with TB outbreaks and South Pennines Project Worker, Jonathan Charlesworth, explained how LandSkills YH has funded well attended workshops with speakers from the NFU and Animal Health, Leeds.
LandSkills YH working with the CRC
Since LandSkills YH began in 2008 we have supported two projects by the CRC. Take a look at the stats below:
- CRC North Yorkshire project has delivered 1009 training days to 877 farmers
- CRC South Pennines project has delivered 203 training days supporting 185 farmers
