01/06/2011 - Agricultural training will be a hot topic of discussion at the Lantra Awards’ stand during the leading technical event for the UK arable industry, Cereals 2011.
Held at Boothby Heath, Lincolnshire on 15-16 June, Cereals provides a 64ha platform to update the industry on the very latest news, products, training. Industry employers and employees attending can ensure their skills are developed sufficiently for their workplace by finding out more about training and continual professional development (CPD), for topics such as farm health and safety and the safe use of pesticides.
Our Northern Development Manager, Jacqui Bruce, said, “The agriculture industry is constantly changing, with many farmers busy on the land at this time of year with limited time to find out what’s already available. We will be at Cereals to explain training opportunities and other options available to farmers, like Lantra’s LandSkills funding.”
According to recent Lantra research*, the land-based industries require a highly-skilled workforce and skills in business management, technical areas and essential areas such as agronomy and applying the latest levy board research to their businesses are becoming increasingly important. This research also highlights that this type of CPD is essential as the industry needs to continually update itself to ensure farms can compete in today’s highly competitive market.
Jacqui continued, “Recent research from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) shows that agriculture is one of the most dangerous careers in the UK today, but there is no need for farmers to risk their safety and livelihood when farm safety training is so accessible today.”
Visitors to the stand will also have the opportunity to be entered into a prize drawing for either £250 of Lantra Awards’ products or a luxury hamper from Fortnum and Mason.
