23/01/2012 - Lantra is asking everyone working in environmental conservation to participate in an extensive review examining roles, skills and responsibilities of those working in conservation.

Those with a keen involvement in the industry, from professional ecologists and access offices to estate staff and volunteers, are being asked to complete an online survey as part of the industry’s National Occupational Standards (NOS) review. From 23 January to 17 February 2012, Lantra will run a UK-wide online consultation to confirm details of the activities carried out by workers in the industry.

Kevin Patrick, Lantra’s Environmental Conservation Manager said: "The Standards can be thought of as a foundation from which future environmental conservation qualifications and training are created, so by getting involved to share your expertise today you will be cultivating the workforce of tomorrow. They are also helpful to conservation businesses and organisations as they help employers identify the skills their employees and volunteers need, highlight best practice, develop training plans and develop job descriptions."

NOS are an essential tool for any size conservation business or organisation. They help to identify skills gaps and find the most relevant training and learning. This can help support continuous professional development of both managers and of the workforce.

Jenny Smith, Lantra’s Standards and Qualifications Project Manager said: "These Standards cannot be developed without your help. Only by working together can today’s professionals make sure that the revised Standards will take into account any new legislation or practices and make them fit for purpose and valued by all." To take part in the online consultation, visit www.lantra.co.uk/NOS. If you have any questions about the upcoming review, you can contact us by emailing standardsandquals@lantra.co.uk or calling 02476 858 424.
