Hot off the press

Keep your followers up to date with the latest news instantly and encourage them to comment on it and repeat the message to their own network.

So what is Twitter?

Twitter is an online network that gives you small chunks of news on anything you like – from politics to celebrity gossip. These snippets, called ‘tweets’ can only be 140 characters long so there’s no need to read – or write - paragraph after paragraph to get to the point. But don’t be misled by a tweet’s briefness; you can still say what you need to and include links to images, videos or web pages.

How can it help my business?

A free and easy tool to use, Twitter is all about talking. You can talk to your customers, partners, industry, journalists, organisations like Lantra – anyone you like – instantly.

  • Let everyone know what you are up to - new staff, opening hours, closing because of snow
  • Promote your latest products, offers, events,
  • Find out what your customers want by asking them simple questions and carrying out research
  • Track what people are saying about your business and respond to queries or questions
  • Be seen in search engines (like google) by getting higher up the pages

And if you don’t want to tweet yourself you can simply read messages from organisations and people that you’re interested in.  This could help you be one of the first to get the latest news – on anything from funding, training opportunities, vacancies, tenders – the list is endless. Plus you can contribute to these conversations and forward messages to anyone you think might be interested.

How can I get started?

Simply go to www.twitter.com to register and then start following the people you're interested in.

You don’t have to be based on a computer either as you can send and read tweets from your mobile phone, or if you have a smart phone (Blackberry, iPhone or Android) you can download free apps to give you greater access to your Twitter accounts.
