Q.  Why do I need to register with Farming Connect?

A.   By registering with Farming Connect we can make sure you are eligible and put you in touch with the right person who will help you to get the most out of the programme.

Q. Once I am registered can I access the entire Farming Connect Programme?

A.  Yes.  Find out what else Farming Connect can support you with.

Q.  Why should we have a skills assessment?

A.  The skills assessment is carried out by one of our Skills Co-ordinators who will identify any training needs within the business that you might not have thought of.

Q.  What does the skills assessment involve?

A.  To carry out a skills assessment we will work with you to see what the skill levels are of you and your employees and identify the areas for development.

The analysis will look at your employees, business and your own:

  • Aims and future plans
  • Challenges and obstacles 
  • Current job roles and skills
  • Typical skills needed on the farm.

Q.  How long will the skills assessment take?

A.  This can vary according to your business and training needs however we recommend it will take at least one and a half hours.

Q.  Who in my business needs to be involved in the skills assessment?

A.  We would prefer to deal with the manager or owner of the business, however with family run businesses we like to meet with everyone but in particular the decision-maker within the business.

Q.  How much does the skills assessment cost?

A.  The Skills Assessment is 100% funded by Farming Connect and will only cost you your time.

Q.  What happens after the skills assessment?

A.  We will send you information on courses for any of the training needs we have identified along with the details of the training providers who can provide the courses you need.

Q.  After the skills assessment can I receive funding for the training I need?

A.  Yes.  We can fund three courses per annum for each person in your business who needs training up to a maximum value of £1,000 per course.  However before you can access the funding an application must be sent to Farming Connect for approval.  Once a decision is made you will be notified by post.

Q.  How long after I receive the approval can I access the training?

A.  The course must be completed and claimed for within six months of being approved.

Q.  Can I use any provider to deliver the training I need?

A.  No.  We will only support courses delivered by one of our approved training providers.

Q.  Can I get funding for everyone in my business?

A.  We can fund all business partners, immediate family members aged 16 years and over and employees who can provide evidence of PAYE.
