Food and Drink Skills project

The Food and Drink Skills Project aims to make sure the Welsh food and drink industry is equipped with the skills needed to meet the challenges of the next ten years.

Working with employees, employers and training providers like you we aim to identify current and future training needs to ensure courses are developed to help you, your business and the Welsh food and drink industry be as efficient and effective as possible.

What does the research involve?

Initial research will be carried out through:

  1. Employer telephone surveys with 3,000 businesses
  2. Employer, employee and training provider focus groups
  3. Engagement with key industry stakeholders.

The aim of this research is to:

  • Find out your skills requirements and training needs
  • Assess the supply and impact of the current training available
  • Identify what will affect business performance and profitability
  • Forecast the demand for education and skills now and over the next 10 years
  • Develop and pilot training that meets employers needs.

How can I be a part of the research?

If you'd like to get involved in the research register your details by emailing us or calling 01982 552646.

You can also tell us your views and thoughts on the skills and training issues for the Welsh food and drink sector by taking part in our:

  • Employer blog - which provides a space for you to discuss current and future skills and training needs in the food and drink sector in Wales.
  • Food and drink student survey - If you're studying a course that's related to the food and drink industry then we want your thoughts and you'll be entered into our prize draw to win an iPod Touch (32GB).

What’ll happen when the research is completed?

Once completed, the research results will be evaluated to assess how training initiatives can be developed to address specific skills needs in the industry.

The project is looking at delivering innovative ways of training.

All programmes developed as part of the research will be piloted and evaluated and the results of which will be used to influence and shape future training.
