Jack Bottoms from Aberaeron, Ceredigion was named as the Land Management and Production Young Learner of the Year winner in Lantra’s 2011 Land-based Learner of the Year Awards, for his dedication to training within the Forestry industry.
“My family own Esgair Timber Company and Estate, We manage 500 acres of commercial forest and 150 acres of mountainside. We produce bespoke sawn timber from our own sawmill as well as fuel wood in several different forms.”
Kevin Thomas, Lantra National Director Wales, said: “Jack really shows determination and dedication to the trees and timber industry, which are just the qualities the next generation will need to take Wales forward into the future. I would like to congratulate Jack and all of this years’ nominees for the outstanding work they do.”
When asked what advice he would give to other people considering forestry as a career Jack said: “Get as much training as possible. It is really not who you know, but what you can do, and it is really an exciting area to work in.”
