Industry and business needs are always changing. So we carry out a number of investigations to find the answers to all sorts of questions:

What skills do you have? What skills do you need? Is the right  training available? How big is your industry? Can the UK produce enough food?

This research is vital so we can influence training policy, support and provision effectively. Read more...

Current Investigations

The Welsh Food and Drink Skills Project

As a continuation of the Welsh Food and Drink Skills (WFDS) Project conducted in 2011, Lantra are now working again with Improve SSC, Skillsmart Retail, and People1st to produce further factsheet information. These factsheets will inform employers, trade associations and education providers about the skills, skill gaps and diversification within the sectors in Wales. The SSC’s involved reflect the breadth of the food chain, from primary production through to hospitality.

Forestry Commission Scotland Schools Project

Lantra have been commissioned by Forestry Commission Scotland to produce forestry and vocational course information on learners across the nation. The information is being sourced through telephone surveys, which are currently being undertaken by Lantra. The research will identify which courses are being undertaken by learners in schools and colleges, and the support schools and colleges receive for this provision.

Apprenticeship Training Agency (ATA) Project

Lantra is carrying out a survey to find out whether employers would like Lantra to set up an Apprenticeship Training Agency. The ATA would attract, select and recruit apprentices then match them to businesses according to the businesses need. Previous research carried out by Lantra identified a number of barriers businesses have in relation to taking on apprentices. These range from difficulties finding and recruiting appropriate apprentices to providing the range of experience within their business which is required for the apprenticeship. Click here to see the full ATA information sheet and to take part in the survey.

Future projects

Other Business Centre (Business Support) and Training Providers Club survey projects are coming soon. Keep your eye on this site for future updates.
