Have your say now for the chance to win a chainsaw.
National Occupational Standards (NOS for short) accurately describe what you need to do, know and understand in your job. As industry changes, we need to review our NOS to take into account new ways of working. So throughout 2011, we will be reviewing trees and timber. Read more...
Trees & Timber National Occupational Standards
Helping you be the best you can be.
The Standards are a great tool to help employers identify the skills their employees need, highlight best practice, develop training plans and develop job descriptions. These Standards also form the basis of trees and timber qualifications.
The review
Since January we have held a number of working groups covering arboriculture, forestry and coppicing to review and draft the standards to reflect jobs in the industry. The drafts have been through a peer review process where many more industry professionals have looked at them.
We have also attended a number of events throughout the year to discuss the review and show copies of the draft standards.
We need your help
The full consultation runs from 1 September – 7 November and is critical that the standards get the scrutiny they need. Many of the units (such as the chainsaw units) have been completely re-written and it is essential that they reflect the tasks that people do in their jobs and written in plain English.
How you can take part in the consultation
Take part in our online consultation here for your chance to win a chainsaw. Here you can register and comment electronically on individual standards
You can also visit us at the South West Woodland Show at Longleat on 9 September and the Amenity Arboriculture Conference at Warwick University on 19 and 20 September.
We are holding meetings in Scotland on 5 October and 6 October where you can comment on the NOS and sign up for the consultation. Please contact us for further information and to sign up to attend
Alternatively email us your comments or call 02476 858400 on Friday mornings between 10.30pm and 12.30pm to give your comments or arrange a time when we can contact you to gather your comments
If you have any events coming up and would like some materials about the NOS or for Lantra to attend (if available) and give an update then let us know.
We'd like to thank everyone who has helped so far with drafting these units, spreading the word about the review, reviewing units and providing feedback on the process.
The Treework National Occupational Standards belong to the industry and a huge amount of time and effort has gone into this review to date. Please take the opportunity to be part of the consultation and ‘have your say’ and ensure that they truly reflect the tasks people are doing in their jobs.
