If you achieve this qualification, you will have the opportunity to obtain competency card for employment within the key professional sector, thus enabling further employment opportunities for which competency is a significant requirement.

If you are over the age of 16 and wish to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills and require proof of competence within your field of expertise, then this course is suitable for you. Your role may require you to use your skills across a range of trees and timber operations. The Qualification aims to ensure you can be confident the minimum standards of good working practices are observed/followed at all times.

Description: 

This qualification has been devised with the key aim for you to successfully evidence your competence in forestry and arboriculture operations. The qualification can be used to create individual programmes tailored to your needs whilst enabling you to achieve or work towards achieving a national competence qualification and improve your opportunities.

Product objectives: 

Upon completing the Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance you will:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities
  • Improve your ability to work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to review and develop your own practices and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard
  • Improve your awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda
  • Confirm your occupational competence and/or licence to practice
  • Meet the licence to practice or other legal requirements made by the relevant sector, professional or industry.

To achieve this Qualification, learners must complete the single Mandatory unit:

  • Carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system
