From manufacturing to leisure, every sector is increasingly under pressure to examine the environmental impact of the activities they do and minimise their impact. Thus Lantra is working with a range of partners to develop a comprehensive set of standards setting out the requirements for environmental awareness and management, that will be applicable to all sectors.
To achieve this Lantra is working with representatives from other ‘Sector Skills Councils’ and ‘Sector and Cross Sector Skills Bodies’ together with employers, environmental practitioners, associations, providers of qualifications plus a number of other organisations.
The National Occupational Standards resulting need to reflect the levels of responsibility required, from basic awareness to strategic management, and be capable of being used as ‘stand alone’ standards or combined to provide qualifications for those with environmental roles.
As environmental awareness becomes part of people's workplace training, in the same way as health and safety is, it is hoped that the principles will transfer into people’s lives outside of work too. Thus making everyone more environmentally aware in everything they and their families do.
