Online Competence Framework (OCF) arrives in Northern Ireland

Members of staff from four local Councils met recently at Newtownabbey Borough Council to learn how to use the new Online Competence Framework (OCF) tool, developed by Lantra.  This tool, which has been funded by the Local Government Training Group working in partnership with SkillsPlus, will be implemented as part of a pilot programme in Antrim, Craigavon, Dungannon, South Tyrone and Newtownabbey Borough Councils.

The OCF is a valuable tool for both organisations and individuals.  It will assist employers to manage their staff more effectively by enabling them to download reports tailored to their business needs, effectively manage the recruitment, appraisal and continuous development of individuals and teams, and recognise and endorse the skills developed by employees.

However, its not just employers who will benefit from using this new innovative method to manage and track skills, employees will benefit too.  The tool will allow them to create their own individual record of achievement, record practical experiences and achievements, and also qualifications.  It will also allow employees to access their training records, and provide them with a link to training providers and courses for further skills development.
