Lantra at the Royal Highland Show 25th-28th June 2009 - Stand 156, 7th Ave.

 

The Lantra team have lots of fun and interesting activities planned for this year's Royal Highland Show in Ingliston.  Please do come along to one of our three receptoins detailed below or simply pop in for a visit to find our more about Lantra in Scotland.

Thursday 25th June

 

2.00pm  Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding

Join Lantra and for an afternoon reception to celebrate the Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Lantra and NFU Scotland that sets out how the two organisations will work together to help increase the level of skills in the farming community. We will be joined by the President of NFU Scotland, Jim McLaren and Lantra Director, Willie Fergusson.

The Lantra Employer Toolkit will be demonstrated and a new Lantra agriculture careers leaflet will be launched to help employers, farmers, schools and organisations actively promote and encourage new entrants into the land-based sector and show entry routes and progression opportunities.

A key speaker from SQA will inform us of the latest developments of Skills for Work/National Progression Awards (NPA) Rural Skills.

There wil also be an update on the development and introduction of new Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship Agriculture to encourage a significant number to take up the Modern Apprenticeship framework, and ensure agriculture has a supply of skilled people for the future.

Jim McLaren and Willie Fergusson will sign the Memorandum of Understanding and this will be followed by a networking opportunity.

 

1.30 pm and 4.30pm Floristry Demonstration

 

During the afternoon a floristry demonstration to make a stunning buttonhole will be given by Langside College.

Friday 26th June

 

10.00am  A celebration of the business success of rural women

Come and enjoy a breakfast reception to celebrate rural women.   

Join the Minister for Environment, Roseanna Cunningham MP, and rural business women to promote the importance of business skills for rural women to enhance the prospects of their enterprises and ultimately create a network of skilled business women around Scotland to share experiences and transfer knowledge.  A case study from the Borders group will be illustrated. The Lantra project is partly funded under the Scottish Rural Development Programme’s Skills development scheme in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, National Farmers’ Union Scotland (NFU Scotland), Scottish Tenant Farmers Association (STFA) and the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association (SRPBA).

1.30pm Developing the next generation of farming leaders

 

To ensure agriculture increases its skills base and encourages more people into the industry, Lantra is working with other partners promoting business skills to farmers and land managers so they can plan for the next generation (succession planning). These skills will equip the next generation of farming leaders with the business and management skills required to run a successful and profitable enterprise in the 21st century.

The project is partly funded by the Scottish Rural Development Programme’s Skills Development Scheme in partnership with the NFU Scotland, the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC), Scottish Tenant Farmers Association (STFA) and the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association (SRPBA).
