Wales

Lantra is passionate about working with the environmental and land-based sector of Wales to drive forward skills and business development.

By working with employers, organisations, training providers and people, Lantra helps:

  • businesses improve performance through investment in skills

  • businesses and people access appropriate learning solutions

  • promote the excellent career opportunities offered by the sector

  • provide a supply of people with the skills required by industry.

In Wales, Lantra represents the interests of over 18,500 businesses, across 17 industries, 99% of which are micro-businesses employing less than ten people, with 94% employing four or less.  Their total workforce is around 85,000 employees, who represent 7.5 per cent of the UK's total environmental and land-based workforce.

The 17 related industries are clustered around:

  • land management and production

  • animal health and welfare

  • conservation and management of the natural environment.

Lantra helping farmers and the environment

Agriculture and its supporting services are vitally important to a sustainable Wales, so equipping farmers with the knowledge and skills to face today's challenges is an important role of Lantra.

However Lantra helps all of the sector's industries to develop their National Occupational Standards and vocational qualifications, lobbies for positive change on their behalf and promotes a variety of initaitives that will raise skills and support businesses in the sector.
