Launching the Learning Zone, Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, Jane Hutt called for investment in skills and for training to be a high business priority.

Approximately 50 people attended the launch including Chairman for Lantra, Dr Gordon McGlone and Chief Executive at Lantra, Peter Martin. Guests at the launch included industry representatives, training providers and those who have benefited from training. After giving a speech, the minister cut a green ribbon to declare the Learning Zone “open”.

The Learning Zone aims to showcase the range, breadth and quality of learning providers across Wales. The Learning Zone is just one of the ways in which Lantra supports the proposals made in the Sector Skills Agreement last year.

The environmental and land-based sector is vital to our economy; tourism associated to the Welsh environment amounted to £821million and supports 23,600 jobs. As well as this, another 117,000 jobs are required to manage our natural environment in Wales.
