Learn while you work

Training while you work is a way of learning which combines practical as well as theoretical skills.

NVQs and SVQs

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) are work-related, competence based qualifications based on national standards agreed by the land-based industries – and therefore recognised by employers throughout the country.

NVQs and SVQs in Agriculture are available at Level 1, and in Agricultural Crop Production at Levels 2 and 3.

For all nationally accredited qualifications, including certificates of competence, national and higher certificates and diplomas, please visit:

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to begin your career and offer structured programmes of learning which combine practical skills with nationally recognised qualifications. Primarily aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 24, there are some schemes which allow funding for older people.

We've developed a structured programme of learning in partnership with agricultural employers, to ensure that you develop the right skills and knowledge for your career.
