Developing your skills

We spend a large part of our lives at work, so making the most of this time to develop our skills and abilities is important, enjoyable and worthwhile.

Improving your skills will:

  • Help you to do your job better

  • Keep your skills up to date

  • Help you to progress in your career.

Employers in the fencing industry have identified the following areas which will help their businesses and help you to progress:

  • Job specific training to ensure up-to-the minute industry experience and the delivery of continuous professional development
This will raise the skills, knowledge and experience of the workforce and link to recognition of professional development which will equip the workforce to meet new challenges

  • Literacy and numeric skills
There is evidence that some fail tests because they are unable to read the questions, which can make training and assessment more difficult

  • Product-related training
Due to the development of many different products in the industry, each requiring specific training, there has been a significant increase in demand for product-related training

  • FISS/CSCS card
The Sector Scheme and British Standards requires all installers to hold this card.

Whatever your age, experience or ambitions, there are qualifications and routes into learning to suit you.
