Having a creative flair, Claire's decision to study floristry came as no surprise to her family and friends.
During careers guidance at school, Claire realised her love of the 'arts' and from this her interest in floristry flourished.
"While studying for my GCSE's I had the opportunity to participate in a 'day release' scheme which afforded me the opportunity of work experience in a floristry shop, which I really enjoyed. This led to my employment with the shop every Saturday, and to my decision to study floristry."
"Having previously completed an NVQ Level 1 in floristry, I am now currently attending the Northern Regional College in Magherafelt one night per week where I am studying for an NVQ Level 2. Studying on a part time basis allows me the flexibility of being able to learn alongside my current employment."
"I really enjoy attending college as it helps me develop my skills and learn more about the floristry industry, which is now seen as a highly skilled profession. I have the opportunity through my part time job in the florist shop to put into practice what I have learnt."
"Having an eye for colour and an artistic flair are essential for flower arranging. Floristry is hard work, but I love being creative and inventive in designing arrangements. One of my personal highlights has been when I was asked to prepare an arrangement for a special occasion."
"At the moment I am concentrating on completing my studies, however, in the future I would really like to set up and run my own floristry business."
