Standards and Qualifications

To meet your industry’s changing needs and to make sure you have skilled, knowledgeable and qualified workers, we work with organisations to produce flexible sets of qualifications and Apprentices using our National Occupational Standards. We know how important these standards and qualifications are, so we regularly review them to keep them up-to-date.

The National Occupational Standards developed by Lantra can now be viewed, accessed and downloaded from the UK Standards website at www.ukstandards.org.uk/Pages/index.aspx.

Current Projects 2017 - 2018

During 2017, Lantra were given the resources to review the Fisheries Management National Occupational Standards (NOS), which were last reviewed in 2010.

During the review of the Fisheries Management National Occupational Standards (NOS), industry experts highlighted that the current NOS contained a lot of duplication, as well as missing skills and knowledge.

To address these issues, Lantra called on industry experts from Scotland and England.  These groups and individuals, worked on addressing the missing skills and knowledge and identifying the duplication.  Once the experts identified the missing areas and duplication, the NOS team at Lantra looked through each NOS, incorporated the missing skills and knowledge and merged NOS to remove duplication.  During this process, the team also reordered and renumbered the NOS, to group them into specific areas.

The next stage of the review process is the conduct a wider industry consultation across all four Nations.

This consultation will run from 5th October until 31st October.  The draft NOS will be available on Dropbox for review and feedback.  Please access the propose Fisheries Management NOS at this link Fisheries Management NOS, read through the NOS specific to your area of expertise, leave comments and complete this questionnaire.

The NOS on Dropbox contain tracked changes, highlighting the incorporation of missing skills and knowledge and the removal of duplication.

Once the NOS are approved, the Fisheries Management sector in Scotland, have agreed to assist with the development of a higher level SVQ in Rural land use and resource management, which will include a number of higher level Fisheries Management NOS.
