Our work with National Occupational Standards

To meet the changing needs of our industries and to ensure that we continue to have skilled, knowledgeable and qualified staff, we work with other organisations to produce what’s called National Occupational Standards (NOS).

Our standards and qualifications team review the NOS regularly to make sure they’re up-to-date and are currently working on treework, equine, gamekeeping and wildlife management SVQ’s and Modern Apprenticeships.

They are also developing a higher technical apprenticeship for rural industries, which will initially include agriculture, fisheries, trees and timber and gamekeeping, and are reviewing the NOS for fisheries management.

So far, we’ve hosted a number of working groups and held some very productive individual meetings. This has given us some great feedback from industry about SVQ’s, Modern Apprenticeships and NOS.

The next step will be to host further working groups and hold wider industry consultation over the next few months, allowing the SVQs and Modern Apprenticeships to be ready for 2018.

If you’d like to get involved in any of the SVQ, Modern Apprenticeship or National Occupational Standards reviews, please email our Standards and Qualifications Team.
