Who can become an advisor?

Accreditation is open to anyone who meets the criteria, including technical, business management and consultancy skills. Only accredited advisers can deliver advice under the Farm Advisory Service.

Becoming an advisor

Are you interested in using your skills to deliver advice? If you meet the following criteria, apply to be an accredited advisor today:

  • Educated to a minimum of HND level or equivalent
  • Proven track record of delivering business management advice, with the equivalent of at least 2 years full-time delivery of business management consultancy
  • Proven ability to establish, appraise and understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of a business
  • Experience of developing potential strategies and plans to enhance business performance
  • Current knowledge and experience of the agricultural industry including the key regulatory, environmental and subsidy regimes in Scotland.
  • Core competencies: Client focussed; Credible and influential; Good critical reasoning skills; Excellent communication and planning skills; Driven and enthusiastic; IT literate with access to computer, email and telephone
  • Mobile
  • Can demonstrate current Professional Indemnity Insurance.

How much does accreditation cost?

The annual accreditation fee is £200 + VAT for an advisor and £75 + VAT for an associate.

 

What is the accreditation process?

To apply you need to complete an application form and provide evidence of educational qualifications, business management skills and technical knowledge. You will need to provide copies of recently completed anonymous business plans. These should contain at least two farm business plans.
