Apprenticeship framework reviews

A key task for Lantra this year is to undertake a UK review of a number of apprenticeship frameworks in our sector to ensure they continue to meet the needs of employers and apprentices.  Your input into this process is vital and we welcome your support.  Please click on the industry below for an update.

PHASE ONE
Focus on: agriculture, mixed farming, amenity horticulture, animal care and production horticulture

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the employer and training provider surveys.  We have reviewed your feedback which will form the basis of discussions at a series of workshops later this year.  If you haven't yet commented on apprenticeships for your industry and would like to, please complete the relevant questionnaires.

  • England and Wales:

Agriculture Crops and Livestock, 31 July 08, Lantra House, 10.30 am – 1.00 pm, finishing with lunch

Animal Care, 17 July 08, BALI House, Stoneleight Park, Warwickshire, 10.30 am – 1.00 pm, finishing with lunch

Amenity Horticulture/Production Horticulture, 10 July 08, Lantra House, either 10.00 am – 1.00 pm – finishing with lunch, or 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm starting with lunch.

  • Scotland:

Amenity/Production Horticulture, 1 July 08, Oatridge College nr Broxburn - lunch from 1pm, meeting 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Mixed Farming, 1 July 08, Oatridge College nr Broxburn - buffet available from 6pm, meeting 7.00pm - 9.30pm

Animal Care, 2 July 08, afternoon - details to follow

  • Northern Ireland:

15 and 16 September 08 - details to follow

General timetable:

  • An overview of the results of the survey will be published on the Lantra website by end of April 2008
  • By the end of May 2008 - industry specific working groups will be set up in the four nations
  • June to September 2008 – working group meetings will be held
  • September to December 2008 – finalise frameworks and paper for submission to relevant approval bodies
  • January to March 2009 – submit papers to the relevant apprenticeship approval groups
  • August 2009 – implementation of revised apprenticeship frameworks 

 

This work has been supported by a committee comprising key representatives from industry.

PHASE TWO
Focus on: fencing, floristry, environmental conservation, dry stone walling, trees and timber and game and wildlife management

The review of apprenticeship frameworks for these industries will commence with a six week online survey for employers and training providers to gather background information starting at the end of May 2008.  A link will be available from this page to the survey which will aim to establish the relevance, awareness and value of apprenticeships currently available.  If you would like to be notified when these surveys are available, please contact Lantra: tel 0845 707 8007 or email connect@lantra.co.uk.

 

Phase one: Apprenticeship Framework Reviews committee

Phase one of the apprenticeship framework reviews has been supported by a committee comprising of representatives from:

  • Horticultural Trades Association (HTA)
  • Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC)
  • British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI)
  • Myerscough College, member of Landex, representing sports turf
  • DART (private training provider) representing amenity horticulture, agriculture and animal care
  • RSPCA (animal care)
  • Castlefield Kennels (animal care employer)
  • Cardiff City Council (amenity horticulture employer – both routes)
  • Upper Booth Farm (agriculture employer)
  • Horticultural consultant (production horticulture)
  • Lantra (partnership manager for horticulture)
