Mice and chips for IT hungry farmers

Lantra has been on hand to ease the transition to modern technology through the Managing Farmers with IT project, which has been established via a network of Further Education Colleges. The project is supported by Mentor a Business with funding from the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO).

Farming is now as much about regulations, record keeping, legislation and business planning as any other business. This inevitably results in a sometimes reluctant move towards the ever advancing technology of the twenty first century.

In conjunction with Farming Connect, Managing Farmers with IT courses are taught by tutors with a farming background at a time and venue most convenient to small groups of 6 to 12 farmers. The tutors are so flexible that they’ve even held courses in pubs, farmhouse kitchens and remote village halls.

Since August the Managing Farmers with IT project has helped almost 6,000 farmers fulfil their business potential by improving business performance, developing new ideas and helping find off-farm employment.
