The National Student Database

Lantra is currently developing the National Student Database.  The database will be a student skills development tool, based on Lantra’s Online Competence Framework (OCF) tool and will provide a record of a “skills gap analysis” against which students and tutors can measure progress.  It also provides highly detailed descriptions of actual tasks undertaken in specific jobs in the sector.

The database will benefit colleges by:

  • Helping to support delivery of the curriculum

  • Supporting IAG - mentors/personal tutors

  • Supporting tracking of leavers

  • Demonstrating the link between provision and jobs – which aids signposting to provision.

The database will benefit the sector by:

  • Improving the quality of new entrants

  • Improving the matching of new entrants to jobs

  • Demonstrating to employers the skills and competence already gained

  • Capturing important Labour Market Intelligence.
