Pushing Parks Forward conference

Lantra’s products and services team attended the Pushing Parks Forward conference to showcase the Online Competence Framework (OCF).  The conference focused on how to successfully market and raise awareness of parks and green spaces.

As central government emphasis is firmly placed on delivering the services that local people want, it’s never been more important for parks managers to develop a sound understanding of the marketing process. Marketing parks is about far more than pamphlets and posters, it’s about providing the parks that people want in the way that they want them, and positioning parks as a desirable visitor attraction in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

Marketing parks is about ensuring that green space is seen by the public and politicians alike as an essential element of the public realm, which deserves funding, resources and attention.

The focus of  the Pushin Parks Forward conference was the varied skills and techniques required to successfully market and raise awareness of parks and green spaces.

The objectives of the conference were to:

  • Learn how to embed marketing into green space strategies

  • Consider the importance of market research

  • Explore ways of engaging with politicians to make the case for parks

  • Discover methods of engaging with the media

  • Learn about ways of branding parks

Pete McDonald and Steve Zaparaniuk from Lantra attended the Conference to help GreenSpace demonstrate the GreenSKILL version of Lantra’s OCF to the 250 attending delegates, who represented the Park and Green Space Departments from councils around the country.  The team will be carrying out further demonstrations in the new year to introduce GreenSKILL to other prospective councils.
