Lantra Wales new call centre

The new UK wide Welfare of Animals in Transit (WAIT) legislation requires that from January 2008, individuals responsible for transporting animals on a journey over 65 km (approx 40 miles) for economic activity, must have training and a certificate of competence.

This has led to increasing numbers of livestock keepers in Wales contacting the Farming Connect Skills Development Programme, to part fund the associated training and certification costs. The high number of enquiries coming in to the programme has resulted in it becoming necessary to have a dedicated call centre within the Lantra Wales office in Builth Wells.

At the time of writing, the number of course places approved by Lantra to receive 50% funding as part of this programme, is close approaching 5,000. Lantra would encourage others affected by this new legislation, in addition to those agricultural, production horticultural and forestry businesses in Wales requiring other training courses to contact Lantra on 01982 552646 for information on the support available.

Please note that for an application to be successful, it is essential that funding approval is secured through Lantra prior to the undertaking of training.
