Development day for Lantra’s NI Industry Forum

Lantra Northern Ireland recently hosted a development day for members of its employer group.

Members from a cross-section of the 17 land-based industries represented by Lantra, and representatives from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) were welcomed by Dr Gordon McGlone OBE, Chairman of Lantra. Guest speaker at the event was Tim Devine, Head of Sectoral Development for the Department of Employment and Learning who advised the group on the importance of skills to the economy.

Dr Gordon McGlone provided an overview of the work of Lantra, particularly in Northern Ireland, and spoke of the need to further develop and recognise the skills of the workforce, and to raise the quality of new entrants to the sector.

Dr McGlone said: "Industry groups are vital as these are the voices best placed to represent their sector in Northern Ireland. It is imperative that these groups provide feedback on what works, what they would like to see work, and what areas need improvement."

This interactive meeting also provided group members the opportunity to discuss issues such as the future role and function of the NI Industry Forum, how best to engage with businesses and individuals in order to raise the profile of the sector and also afforded them time to discuss why skills are important to industry.
