Lantra are pleased with the constant and ongoing demand for training. Among the wide range of courses approved for 50% support are: CEVAS (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme), which provides guidance on hosting farm visits; plant/machinery operation; chainsaws & wood chippers; cattle and sheep A.I. and scanning; lamb, beef and pork butchery; and vehicle operation, including ATV, tractor, trailer towing (Cat B+E) and LGV (large goods); in addition to the sustained high level response from the industry towards gaining certificates of competence in the ‘Welfare of Animals in Transit’.
To date around 5,000 course places have been approved, a much larger volume than anticipated. As a result of this unprecedented demand for support toward the cost of training and assessment through the Farming Connect Skills Development programme, Lantra has been working with the Welsh Assembly Government to secure funding to support additional places. The total is expected to now reach 7,500 by the end of May 2008.
