Women and Work project set to continue to benefit women in male dominated industries

The Women and Work project is set to be extended thanks to the success of providing part funded training to women in underrepresented industries in the environmental and land-based sector.

The Women and Work project, managed by Lantra, is targeted at women who wish to progress in an occupation where it is widely recognised that few females have highly skilled or managerial jobs.   The aim is to ultimately improve the gender balance in agriculture, horticulture, land-based engineering, environmental conservation, landscape, fencing, game and wildlife management and trees and timber.

The project offers a competency-based skills assessment which identifies skills shortages and links these to appropriate training.  Training programmes focus on leadership, management and supervisory skills as well as technical, specialist and professional skills.

Project manager, Lyndsay Bird, said:  "The project has been a huge success in its initial year and it is great news to know that the project is set to help even more women in our Sector.”
