Sector Qualifications Strategy

The Strategy is an over-arching UK-wide strategic document that sets out future of qualifications and training within Lantra’s footprint,  implementing the priorities identified within the Sector Skills Agreement.

The key part of the document is Section 6 – How Lantra will realise the future.

This section details the intentions of the sector for improving and recognising skills through qualifications, training and professional development, from 14 years upwards and including work-based, further and higher education.

Lantra’s vision

Lantra’s vision for the future of qualifications and training is to develop a flexible and responsive framework of qualifications and training from national occupational standards to ensure industries within the sector have sufficient qualified and experienced staff whose skills and experience are recognised.

In addressing the priorities of the Sector Skills Agreements, the Strategy will meet the needs of two distinct groups:

  • One to support the knowledge and skills development of young people and adults entering the sector; and

  • One for the adult workforce and professional development for those already employed.

The key messages of Lantra’s vision in developing these two approaches are for qualifications and training to be:

  • Relevant to industry needs, and therefore developed from National Occupational Standards and sector approved job profiles

  • Flexible, unitised programmes of learning.

In doing so, Lantra’s aims are that:

  • Qualifications and training, whether accredited or not, to be recognised through Lantra’s On-line Competence Framework (OCF)

  • Funding should be influenced to meet sector requirements

  • Qualifications and training provide clear and articulate career progression routes.

Benefits to the industry

  • Cohesive suite of recognised qualifications

  • Alignment of qualifications to job roles

  • Flexible/unitised learning.

Action plans

Between August 2007 and December 2007 Lantra worked with all of our stakeholders to develop action plans to progress the priorities in the Strategy.

The action plans were completed at the end of December 2007 and will be regularly reviewed and updated.
