The HSE have updated their statement released back in March relating to expired First Aid training/qualifications and certification expiry:
First Aid at Work (FAW) and Emergency First aid at Work (EFAW) certificates requalification
With a potential backlog and/or limited availability of First Aid training and assessments, the HSE have agreed that FAW or EFAW certificates which expired after 16 March 2020, can remain valid until 31 October 2020 or 6 months from date of expiry (whichever is later).
The HSE state that requalification training for these certificates should be completed by 31 March 2021.
Their extension criteria can be found listed here.
Annual refresher training
Due to the potential backlog and/or limited availability of face-to-face annual refresher training, the HSE supports the use of remote refresher training to keep essential skills up to date.
They do however strongly advise that practical elements of FAW, EFAW and requalification courses are delivered face-to-face as to properly assess Learner competency.
Interrupted first aid training
If Learners cannot complete their first aid qualifications within the specified time frames due to the effects of the pandemic, the HSE state training can restart at a later date if:
- a full recap of training delivered before the interruption is done before moving onto undelivered modules
- the awarding body is content that Learners can demonstrate:
1) a full understanding of all aspects of the course content
2) the knowledge required and competencies at the end of the training.
