Celebrating the Success of the New Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme
21st January 2026
Since the launch of the new and improved Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme on 21st January 2025, the Bridge Inspector community has embraced the enhancements with enthusiasm. This milestone marks a significant step forward in ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism across the industry.

An Innovative Vision for Bridge Inspection
The proposal for this scheme was initiated by the Bridge Owners Forum and the UK Bridges Board, who recognised the need for a common standard across the sector. Their vision was to create a unified approach that guarantees consistency, competence, and quality in bridge inspections nationwide.
Driving Growth Through Engagement
A key factor in the scheme’s continued success has been the strong relationships built within the bridges community. Through in-person and remote presentations, Lantra has played a pivotal role in engaging stakeholders, raising awareness, and promoting the benefits of accreditation. These efforts have fostered trust and collaboration, ensuring that the scheme not only launched successfully but continues to grow and gain momentum.
Danni Fagan-Shaw, Project Manager for BICS at Lantra, said:
“Meeting bridge inspectors, asset owners, and employers face to face in addition to hearing their experiences has been invaluable in building strong relationships and support for the scheme across the bridges industry.”
A Prestigious Bridge Inspection Accreditation
The updated scheme, delivered by Lantra, offers an independent, quality-assured, and rigorously assessed accreditation that sets a benchmark for excellence. By adopting this prestigious certification, organisations demonstrate their commitment to maintaining a skilled and competent workforce capable of meeting the complex demands of modern infrastructure inspection.
A Commitment to Industry
The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, with inspectors and Employers alike recognising the value of a robust, credible scheme. This commitment ensures that every certified professional is equipped with the knowledge and expertise required to safeguard our bridges for generations to come.
