You will learn all the theory needed to use and keep a chainsaw running safely, with key sessions covering: Health & Safety, PPE, safety features, maintenance plus applying appropriate operational techniques.

You will gain hands on experience of starting a chainsaw, completing pre-cutting tests, safety checks, and learn the skills needed to operate the chainsaw to cut through a range of different materials.

Who should attend?

Emergency Services personnel who need to operate an Emergency Services Chainsaw.

What will be covered?

By the end of the course learners will:

Know safety legislation and guidelines
Know appropriate Chainsaw PPE, plus additional PPE required to use the MS461R
Know the safety features, function and capabilities of the MS461R
Be able to complete routine maintenance of the MS461R
Be able to fit/adjust depth limiter, adjust depth of cut, tension the saw chain
Be able to carry out pre-cutting safety checks and start the machine from cold and hot
Be able to apply the correct stance and cutting techniques to cut various materials (eg glass, metal sandwich panel, single skin metal panel, composite sandwich panel)
Understand the procedures if a chainsaw becomes trapped.
