Lantra Celebrates 10th OSCE Assessment Weekend

Date: 18th August 2025

Over the weekend of the 9th and 10th August, Lantra celebrated reaching a significant milestone in delivering our 10th Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) assessment weekend!

From Mock to Official: The Evolution of Our OSCE

This achievement reflects the dedication, teamwork, and continuous improvement that has shaped Lantra’s journey from the very beginning. Our OSCE journey began with a mock OSCE assessment held at Myerscough College during the summer of 2023.

This invaluable experience laid the groundwork for our very first official OSCE, hosted just a few months later in September 2023 at The Open College of Equine Studies. That event accommodated to a small group of learners, but it marked the start of something much bigger.

Lantra’s OSCEs: Empowering Over 350 Veterinary Nursing Learners

Since then, our OSCEs have grown significantly. To date, over 350 Learners have undertaken their OSCEs with us; a number that speaks volumes about the trust placed in Lantra, and the vital role these assessments play in shaping the future of veterinary nursing.

None of this would have been possible without the hard work and unwavering commitment of our Veterinary Nursing team. Behind every successful assessment weekend is a team that puts quality, learner experience, and professionalism at the heart of it.

The Role of Leadership in OSCE Assessment Quality

The team have learned a great deal along the way. With each assessment weekend, we have gathered feedback, refined our processes, and made considered adjustments to ensure we’re delivering a consistently high-quality OSCE experience for all involved.

A special thank you goes to our Chief Examiner, Ali Heywood, whose leadership and expertise has been instrumental in ensuring the quality and integrity of our assessment tasks. Her contribution has set a high benchmark for excellence.

We also want to recognise the Senior Examiners, Assistants, and the Examiner team, whose dedication and attention to detail ensure that every assessment runs smoothly and fairly. Their professionalism and care are what make these weekends such a success and this has been noted in feedback from learners.

Of course, we couldn’t do it without the support of our fantastic host venues—Coleg Gwent, ARU Writtle, SRUC, and The Open College of Equine Studies. Their hospitality and facilities provide the ideal environment for learners to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

“I’m incredibly proud to have seen the OSCEs grow from our very first small event into the full sessions we have seen recently. Scaling up the sessions is only possible due to the hard work of the Lantra Veterinary Nursing team and all  our Examiners who are the face of the assessment on the day.
