This course is designed to fulfil the initial training requirements of a Police TMO by providing an overview of traffic management concepts and principles, with more detailed coverage of those areas most commonly coming within the scope of the police TMO role.

The five-day course is delivered over nine distinct taught modules and concludes with a time-constrained written assessment, which requires an analysis of supplied data and a consideration of options to mitigate an identified traffic management/road safety problem.
The module breakdowns are as follows:
Day 1 am – Introduction to Traffic Management
Day 1 pm – Highway Law
Day 2 am – Traffic Regulation Orders
Day 2 pm – Speed Limits
Day 3 am – Temporary Traffic Management
Day 3 pm – Signs and Road Markings
Day 4 am – Highway Design
Day 4 pm – Road Safety Engineering
Day 5 am – Road Safety Audit
Day 5 pm – Assessment

Who should attend?
The course is intended for both newly-appointed and experienced Police Traffic Management Officers.
What will be covered?
By the end of the course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify the legal and procedural requirements and limitations of the role of the police traffic management officer.
- Identify the correct sources of information relating to the main aspects of the role of police TMO.
- Advise and direct police colleagues and other applicants in matters relating to traffic management, road safety and highway engineering.
