This two day Setting-out & Site Preparation course is essential training for those who are involved with designing plans and setting-out sites ready for the construction phase. This course provides learners with the essential fundamental skills and knowledge needed to prevent issues during the course of a landscape construction project.

Both days of the course have a combination of:

  • Hands-on training throughout the day, to provide learners with real-world practical experience that can be utilised when on site.
  • Practical assessments throughout to ensure competent understanding of each task & subject. 

 

Day 1 – Site Surveying

  • Understanding a site & it’s requirements

Day 2 – Site Setting Out & Prep

What will be covered?

This 2-day course combines theory and practical training, to ensure the learner has a full understanding of the essential requirements for surveying & setting-out sites and preparing a site for landscape construction. The attendee will gain: 

  • A comprehensive knowledge of health & safety requirements for site during the construction phase to ensure the safety of yourself and others. 
  • An understanding of design plans, site plans and considerations how these reflect the site and project requirements when constructing on site. 
  • Full understanding of selecting the correct materials, tools and equipment for the preparation of construction on site. 
  • An understanding of working with setting-out points, datums, baselines and levels to achieve accurate planning and progression of the construction phase including dealing with site features, and regular and irregular forms.
  • A full understanding of how to work with measurements, scales, levels, gradients, site variations and how to overcome difficult obstacles you may find on a site.
  • A full understanding of how to competently operate site survey equipment, including the use of traditional techniques, automatic levels (dumpy levels), rotating levels (laser levels) and altimeter levels (zip levels).
  • Full understanding of calculating areas, volumes and quantities for paving installation.
  • Full understanding of excavation requirements in line with industry standards to achieve desired patio or paving finish.
  • Full understanding of sub-base construction methods required for landscaping projects to meet industry standards.
  • The ability to competently set-out a proposed landscape scheme in preparation for construction.
  • Hands-on training throughout the day to provide learners with real-world practical experience that can be utilised when on site.
